Fr. Bernard Reiser honored with Eleven Who Care Award on June 22

Fr. Reiser is being celebrated as an outstanding member of his community of Coon Rapids on June 22 2011 at the “Eleven Who Care,” banquet which will be hosted at the Thrivent's Corporate Center, Minneapolis Minnesota

In January 2011 Fr. Reiser has been named one of “Eleven Who Care,” an awards program that recognizes 11 outstanding volunteers who serve the community each year.

“I am honored by this recognition, especially because it brings attention to Reiser Relief Inc and our community participation in supporting the needs in Haiti.” Reiser said.

Fr. Reiser is the founder and president of Reiser Relief Inc. a nonprofit charity providing essential services to Haitians in their day-to-day efforts to survive. These services include providing fresh water, stocking food centers and funding education and eldercare facilities. Many Reiser Relief outreach projects serve impoverished people living in or near Cité Soleil, a slum near the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince

Each year, hundreds of volunteers are nominated for the award, given by KARE-11. According to KARE-11, the honorees “truly exemplify the belief that one person can make a difference.”

Fr. Reiser, who was born in Medina MN, is Catholic Priest, educator, author, and a student of human history. He has devoted himself for more than 60 years to his priestly ministry and supporting various projects in Haiti for over 13 years.

Fr. Reiser will be honored at the award banquet on June 22 and the Eleven Who Care segment will air June 22 at 10 p.m. on KARE-11

Reiser was ordained in 1949 and his new Book Reiser’s Ramblings has been recognized at recent book contests in the “spiritual category”:- May 2011 San Francisco Book Festival “Honorable Mention" ~ May 2011 Paris Book Festival "Runner-Up" and June 2011 Beach Book Festival “Runner-Up".

About the author: Fr. Bernard Reiser is a long-time resident of Coon Rapids, Minn. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1949 after attending the St. Paul Seminary. Fr. Reiser was first assigned to Saint Mary of the Lake, White Bear Lake, as Associate Pastor. He served that community for fifteen years. In 1964, Fr. Reiser was selected to start a parish in Coon Rapids. Fr. Reiser bought seventy acres of farmland on which to build this parish and the Church of the Epiphany was formed. Epiphany parish grew from 150 families in 1964 to 5,000 families today. Along the way, Fr. Reiser added to the Epiphany campus an elementary school, a Perpetual Adoration chapel, a senior housing complex, an assisted living facility, a cemetery, and several outdoor shrines. He also led the parish to construct a spacious sanctuary. Epiphany is now one of the largest Catholic communities in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and in Minnesota.
